Top Ten Website Mistakes Businesses Make #5
Welcome to our informational series from yours truly and Transmutation Sciences.
This series, “The Top Ten Website Mistakes Businesses Make,” is being created as a checklist to which you can apply to your own website and determine whether you need professional help … erm, the professional help of Transmutation Sciences! In our previous installment we discussed the nasty habit of focusing on looks vs content.
If Yer Gonna Fish … Use Bait!
One mistake many businesses make when defining their internet marketing strategy is not offering a product online. For a product-based etailer this isn’t so much of a problem, however, service-based businesses often forget to offer something that visitors can purchase online. People search the internet to shop or gather information 24/7, and people like knowing they could buy something from you.
Offer something, even if it’s for free. For example, CleanDango is a cleaning/janitorial service. For years their website languished with a sore lack of content and nothing for visitors to do while on the site. Hence traffic was virtually non-existent.
We overhauled their website and included a “Keepin’ It Clean, Keepin’ It Green” downloadable informational brochure discussing the benefits of using green, earth-friendly, organic cleaners in your home and office that also offered some quick tips to clean spills … how to handle a red wine spill or remove gum from carpets. Traffic leapt, throwing their site into the Google top twenty for many of their keywords AND the brochure was downloaded thousands of times in the first few months!
Including downloadable coupons or having a “Special Offer” available is also very good for keeping your visitors returning … just be certain it changes regularly. Regular – and consistent – newsletters are also a “product” to offer.
