Capture Visitor and Customer Data
Time and again we visit websites that are not doing the basic job of grabbing visitor data. Yes, your server has traffic data and you’re probably using Google Analytics to give you some raw data on site performance … what we’re discussing is basic customer information … a name and an email address.
An email address is like money in the bank and you want as many email addresses that you can get so that you can continue to market toward these customers. One rule of thumb is that you will get a 6 – 10% open rate and a 1% click through rate on your email messages. Therefore, the more people you email to the more successful will be your campaign. Another rule of thumb in marketing is that a person needs to view something – your logo, your advertisement, your message – at least 7 times before they take action. This means that when you initiate your email campaign, you’d better have a plan. Please be aware there are many variables to these rules of thumb – type of message, type of offer, length of time someone’s been on your list, etc.
Also, many people do not like to give out their information for fear of getting spammed; clearly state what you will do with their information and what they will receive in return for giving you this information. this can be a simple statement on your form. To further gain their trust, create a formal Privacy Policy (example) and link to that on the form.
