Domain Dangers

You’ve undoubtedly seen them … and tried to type them … looooong domain names or complex domain names.  These also include sub-domains like mysubdomain.yesthisismywebsite.com.   Typing is an acquired skill and some people are lousy spellers.  If your domain is too long or you are using a sub-domain spelling errors lead people to the wrong site – maybe even a competitor-  and you will miss out on a potential customer.

Whenever you are able, get the shortest and/or most memorable domain name you can for your company.  You may even want to use your main keywords/search term as your domain name.  Now www.elitehomeinspections.com is a bit long but it’s the company name AND the search term all in one!  My domain name is crazy bad – www.transmutationsciences.com. Who the heck knows what “transmutation” means … and “sciences” always seems to be mis-heard as “scientists” and it certainly does NOT include any search terms for anyone other than alchemists.  But, www.web-optimization.com, is much better.
